I didn't bother finishing this as I realised that the idea was far to big for a 3 week project but what this was supposed to be is him stopping, turning into the other street and olieing over the stairs.

Due to the lack of time I had to change basically everything so decided to start a new one and shortened it.

Test Animations

This is just a test of what I have so far.
Again but with some more scenes to it and some changes to what I had before.

Here is my final animation (sorry but I didn't have the time to add sound)

Animated Comic Idea

Need For Speed Underground 2 Comic

This is a racing game so it doesn't have much to do with my skateboarding idea however my teacher suggested having an animated comic so it only animates the parts that needs to be animated and using still images for parts that can get the message across with still images.

Also for the time I have left it is a great idea to shorten the work load that I have yet keeping the effects and visuals that I want and also the whole idea of showing this skateboarding city.

I am Legend - Animated Comics

These are extras that add to the film. I think that these work pretty well in the sense that they are comics and yet contain animations in it where it is necessary.

Visual Styles

JET SET RADIO FUTURE
Jet Set Radio future is a skating game for the Xbox thats all about (skating) in a future based city and fighting for tereroy agains other skater gangs by spraying graffiti throughout the city. Here are some images from the game and other artwork that I like and influenced me in my style of animation. Mainly I the city in how there are plenty of places and things to skate on, practically built for skating.




Character are quite funky and have an extremely funky dress style.



Here is an image that I really found interesting having so many colours around and having the character white throughout.


I like this one because of the gradient that makes it slightly more interesting than the plain white.


Just saw this and liked that the outline is thicker than the other lines and thought to combine this and the images above that are white. Then simplify it by taking away most lines and leaving the necessary lines to identify the parts in the image.


Soul Eater.
Soul Eater is an Anime series and the background characters are all coloured as gradients and never move (which I like) as it keeps the focus on the main characters (which is good for me as I get distracted easily by little details in the background in films and animations).... anyway I really like that and this is basically the visual style for the characters that I want to use.

Chase Scenes

This is a chase scene from the film - Ditrict B13. I love the high paste action and the places he goes to.


Casino Royale

Characters

The main character. I am aiming for an all and all plain colour scheme and keeping the characters quite simply drawn by hinting surtain things with lines.
I only want the skateboard to have its real colours and everything related to it such as the fun boxes, half pipes, grind rails ect.




The gang that will be chasing the main character.



These are examples of other people throughout the city. Just trying out different kind of people.
On the right is the person I used to create a simplified female character.



Thought it would be funny to include a dog on a skateboard to reinforce that everyone uses skateboards.

The Animatrix - Kid's Story
This is a similar feel of animation I want in relation to the realism of the characters, however still wanting to simplyfy the characters more and having much less detail on everything in my animation except for the skateboards.

GAME

The menu video from the Xbox 360 game: Skate 2. I really like the angles and the way that it's been edited to the music, but I'm not sure if that would be the best option for my animation.

SKATE 3 intro - video is very similar to how I would want my animation - having him skate towards a destination while performing tricks inbetween but also showing the city and how everything is skateboard based.
This is a video of my cousin and me going down a hill on our skateboards. I thought that it would make a good scene from first person view and would also give me the sound of the skateboards rolling.

This is just another hill that we went down.

My cousin going down a small ramp... just looking for ideas for the animation scenes.


Me Ollieing off of a small fun box, just for the panning shot really and the ollie could have then been exagerated and more could have been added in the animation to make it look much much better.

Days in the lives of...

I like a certain part of this vid - the ollie at 1:09 and I am considering adding a shot like this into my animation but I'm not too sure if it will need to be added but I like it in any case and am considering adding it.
I also think that the the entire footage of this vid is quite usefull as it is in slow motion and helps me to see the movements of the skater(s) better.

Skateboard City

These are images from the Animation "Logoramas" (which is amaizing might I add). I love how "EVERYTHING" has been made using logos and similar to this, I'm aiming to have my "skateboard city" made for the porpuse of skateboarding so haveing ramps and rails throught the city.



These skate ramps, half pipes, rails, funboxes and stuff will be throught the city aswel.


Here is a city I made in Google sketchup so that the background in the animation would always be correct in each secne when having the different angles. I dont need the details as I will be rotoscoping and adding the detail when drawing over these backgrounds.











MIRROR'S EDGE
Mirror's Edge is a free running game that you run around on building tops from point to point (ofcourse there's more to it than that) but I really like the idea that the object that you can or have to interact with to get further in the game shows up red so you know where to go. Also that the buildingtop scenery is quite bright containing alot of white making it easier to spot the red areas.
